When quasi-celebrities attack: Jay Mohr blames Boston attack on the 2nd Amendment

Aging comedian/actor JJay_Mohray Mohr managed to generate some publicity for himself on Monday by exploiting the Boston Marathon explosions to push his anti-Second Amendment agenda.

Mohr, who those from my generation might remember from Tom Cruise’s hit 1996 film Jerry Maguire, and younger readers might remember from absolutely nowhere, sent his first clueless tweet Monday night.

“What bothers me most about today is that we’re getting used 2 it. ENOUGH. 2nd amendment must go. Violence has 2 stop. Culture MUST change.”

When questioned on the connection between the Second Amendment and the Boston explosions, he just kept digging.

“The 2nd Amendment lends itself to the CULTURE of violence we are living in.”

Later, when he continued to be flooded with comments from gun owners taking him to task, he commented that he was “[a]mazed at [the] pro gun responses” and wondered “Where are u maniacs coming from?”

That’s right folks … to the elites in New York and Hollywood, your rights contribute to a culture of violence and you are ‘maniacs’ for daring to speak up when liberals call for your rights to be stripped away.

If his comments upset you as much as they did me then perhaps you might like to join me in contacting his employer.  Mohr has a sports radio program on Fox Sports Radio called Jay Mohr Sports.

I am guessing that either of the following executives would love to hear from sports fans who are upset by Mohr’s words.

Telephone: (212) 445-3926

Craig Hawkesworth, Vice President of Interactive Sales

Telephone: (972) 455-6267

Let them know that it is probably not a good idea to keep someone on the payroll who considers more than half of their viewers to be violent ‘maniacs’.

Yep – we even defend his right to sound ignorant and insulting, but I don’t have to watch him on the tube.

If I am such a maniac and my gun so dangerous, then why haven’t we harmed anyone?

Jay Mohr on the other hand directly contributes to the victim rich GFZ that criminals and terrorists find so enticing. Those that are lead by their fears and don’t respond rationally are the real problem and the shame of it all.

Please, please tell me when was the last time a law stopped a determined killer?

  3. Bergman says:

The Boston Marathon bombings can’t really be used to rationally support opposition to the second amendment — but they could be used to justify abolishing the first amendment. Or at least parts of it.

Why? Chemistry textbooks. If you can’t learn how to build bombs, you can’t detonate them. The deadliest school massacre in U.S. history wouldn’t have been stopped by a total gun ban, but a ban on literacy and a license/background check to own books could have stopped the murderer in his tracks.

That’s the real danger here. Not that some people irrationally hate guns, no. The real danger is that in their blind zeal, they might set precedents for the removal of ALL of our unalienable constitutional rights. And not just constitutional rights.

You’re 6,000 times more likely to be killed with a car than an assault weapon. Almost any argument for or against banning civilian ownership of guns can also be made with very little modification for or against banning civilian ownership of books or cars.

That’s not just a slippery slope there, that’s an icy cliff.

    Mr. Pierce,

I am troubled by your solution to Mr Mohr’s comments. First let me say Mohr’s outlook is ignorant and intolerant; but in my opinion, I’d never request that he be fired for his opinion. Our first amendment rights should be protected as passionately as our second amendment rights. Thanks for the option to comment on your blog.

On the other hand, though. In a free market, Fox Sports can take into consideration the repercussions of someone that represents them, in the public eye, making comments that may infuriate current and potential viewers. In other words, if he were my employee, using his status in my company to express views that could hurt my bottom line, he would not have a job.

      • Ron says:

I do want to stress, “that could hurt my bottom line”. Reflecting badly on yourself is one thing. Affecting your employers image in a bad way is another. Just as he has the right to free speech, free market dictates the employers right to hire and fire.

If Mr. Mohr would take a look at the people that have committed the mass shootings, he would find that everyone of them are in desperate need of mental health (In-Patient) care not on the streets of our cities. Yet politicians are still closing Mental Health facilities. Here in New York State, St. Lawrence Mental Health Hospital is on the agenda of Governor Cuomo , to close. Yet me claims to be a man who wants to protect the general public!!!! There is a direct cause & effect between Mental Heath facilities closing and violent crime rates in those areas. Sound like a good idea to close yet another Mental Health hospital, I think not.

I know a little about Mr. Mohr. Jay Mohr has no clue about firearms because 1) he grew up in the suburbs of NJ where 70% of the people fear guns. He spent much of his teen years and early twenty’s in NYC comedy clubs trying to be funny. He was on Saturday Night Live for a blink of an eye and then he ended up in Hollywood where the left coast liberals gave him his masters degree in idiocy. He’s only spouting what his life long culture has taught him. Then he’s suddenly surprised when he is taken to task by thinking Americans. Adios Jay, once I thought you were funny.
