This act officially renamed the organization and made it a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>Why is that important to the story? It is important because, as a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia, BVU Authority is subject to Virginia&#8217;s firearms preemption law (\u00a7 15.2-915).<\/p>\n<p>Now that the stage is set, I bet you can imagine where this is going &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>They are going to attempt to implement a gun ban aren&#8217;t they?<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Why yes &#8230; Yes they are.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My involvment started about two weeks ago. \u00a0I was contacted by a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vcdl.org\" target=\"_blank\">VCDL<\/a> member back on January 16th who told me that they had just left the BVU Authority main office on Lee Highway in Bristol and that there was a &#8220;No Guns&#8221; sign on the door. He sent me the following picture.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2866\" alt=\"BVU_No_Guns\" src=\"https:\/\/monachuslex.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/BVU_No_Guns-577x1024.jpg\" width=\"577\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/monachuslex.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/BVU_No_Guns-577x1024.jpg 577w, https:\/\/monachuslex.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/BVU_No_Guns-169x300.jpg 169w, https:\/\/monachuslex.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/BVU_No_Guns.jpg 1840w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 577px) 100vw, 577px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sure enough &#8230; they had indeed posted a &#8220;No Guns&#8221; sign in direct violation of the preemption statute.<\/p>\n<p>I followed up on this news with letters to the Interim CEO and their attorney who, to their credit, reacted incredibly quickly to my concerns.<\/p>\n<p>I was notified yesterday that the signs had been ordered removed.<\/p>\n<p>I want to thank the BVU Authority for taking quick action to bring themselves in line with Virginia law and for respecting the rights of their customers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BVU Authority, which provides utility and state-of-the-art internet and telephone services to residents of Southwestern Virginia, started life as the Bristol Virginia Utilities Board.
