{"id":376,"date":"2012-04-06T20:30:20","date_gmt":"2012-04-06T20:30:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/monachuslex.com\/?p=376"},"modified":"2012-04-06T20:30:20","modified_gmt":"2012-04-06T20:30:20","slug":"a-cowboys-easter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/monachuslex.com\/?p=376","title":{"rendered":"A cowboy&#8217;s Easter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-377\" title=\"Cowboy_Easter\" src=\"https:\/\/monachuslex.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Cowboy_Easter-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/>This is a poem I had written several years ago for an Easter church service at a Cowboy Mounted Shooting event.\u00a0 I would like to share it with you.\u00a0 I hope that even those of you who are not Christian will appreciate the message and the symbolism.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><strong><em>Happy Easter!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p>Last night I dreamt I had run my race<br \/>\nAnd reached the finish line<br \/>\nAnd walked the darkened desert path<br \/>\nThat waits for all in time<\/p>\n<p>And when I reached the trailhead there<br \/>\nI was rounded up and penned<br \/>\nInside the ranch that&#8217;s called The Grave<br \/>\nThe destiny of men<\/p>\n<p>Well, the ramrod was a wicked man<br \/>\nHis name was simply Death<br \/>\nHe ruled over all the herd<br \/>\nOf those who once drew breath<\/p>\n<p>Now in the center of the ranch<br \/>\nWas a spring of water sweet<br \/>\nThat sang to us of life anew<br \/>\nAs we suffered in the heat<\/p>\n<p>But struggle though we tried and tried<br \/>\nWe never could get near<br \/>\nFor the ramrod had a gun of fire<br \/>\nAnd a whip of solid fear<\/p>\n<p>But when our hopes had died away<br \/>\nAnd turned into despair<br \/>\nA mighty wondrous thing occurred<br \/>\nFor all the mortals there<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0cowboy rode into the ranch<br \/>\nAnd the ramrod seemed to pale<br \/>\nFor this had never happened<br \/>\nBut he had heard the tale<\/p>\n<p>For ancient legend had it<br \/>\nThat one day a man would ride<br \/>\nDown the dark and twisted path<br \/>\nWith a wound upon his side<\/p>\n<p>And his hands would also bear twin scars<br \/>\nAnd his hat would hide a crown<br \/>\nAnd he would take this ranch<br \/>\nAnd he would cast it down<\/p>\n<p>Now this cowboy really looked the part<br \/>\nHis shirt was stained with blood<br \/>\nAnd his reins were also slick with it<br \/>\nWhere he held them in his gloves<\/p>\n<p>But battle weary though he was<br \/>\nHis eyes held naught of fear<br \/>\nAnd all of us who saw him<br \/>\nFelt salvation was near<\/p>\n<p>And though the ramrod has been called<br \/>\nPale Rider as you know<br \/>\nNever had he looked so pale<br \/>\nAs he faced his mighty foe<\/p>\n<p>When the cowboy swung down from his horse<br \/>\nAnd he faced the one called Death<br \/>\nThen all of Heaven and of Earth<br \/>\nThey all just held their breath<\/p>\n<p>And the cowboy spoke to Death<br \/>\nSo everyone could hear<br \/>\n<em>&#8220;Do not mistake me for the lamb.<br \/>\nI am a lion here.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>The price I paid to walk this path<br \/>\nWas steep, but gladly paid.<br \/>\nAnd now I call you out<br \/>\nFor your destiny is laid.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And on his hip a sixgun shone<br \/>\nForged by divinity<br \/>\nAnd on his holster was a brand<br \/>\nThe mark of Trinity<\/p>\n<p>And Death went for his gun of fire<br \/>\nBut the cowboy was too fast<br \/>\nAnd in a flash of blessed light<br \/>\nThe age of Death was past<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a poem I had written several years ago for an Easter church service at a Cowboy Mounted Shooting event.\u00a0 I would like to share it with you.\u00a0 I hope that even those of you who are not Christian &hellip;
