{"id":51,"date":"2011-06-23T14:25:55","date_gmt":"2011-06-23T14:25:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/monachuslex.com\/?p=51"},"modified":"2011-06-23T14:25:55","modified_gmt":"2011-06-23T14:25:55","slug":"maine-governor-signs-multiple-gun-bills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/monachuslex.com\/?p=51","title":{"rendered":"Maine Governor Signs Multiple Gun Bills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-52\" title=\"Maine Governor LePage\" src=\"https:\/\/monachuslex.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Maine-Governor-Lepage-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Maine Governor LePage\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/>Maine Governor Paul LePage has signed three separate bills which expand gun rights in Maine.<\/p>\n<p>The first of these is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mainelegislature.org\/LawMakerWeb\/summary.asp?ID=280038924\" target=\"_blank\">LD 35<\/a>, introduced by Representative Richard Cebra (R-Naples), which states that an employer cannot prohibit an employee who has a valid carry permit from storing a firearm in their personal vehicle so long as the vehicle is locked and the firearm is not visible.<\/p>\n<p>This bill, which is now codified at Sec. 1. 26 MRSA \u00a7600, also provides immunity from liability for employers whose employees store their firearms in accordance with the provisions of the law.<\/p>\n<p>The second bill Governor LePage signed was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mainelegislature.org\/LawMakerWeb\/summary.asp?ID=280039575\" target=\"_blank\">LD 446<\/a>, also introduced by\u00a0Representative Cebra, which provides that a current or retired law enforcement officer from another state may carry a concealed handgun in Maine provided they have appropriate identification. \u00a0This bill, now codified at\u00a0Sec. 3.\u00a025 MRSA \u00a72001-A, sub-\u00a72, \u00b6\u00b6G and H, is a state statutory companion to the 2004 Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) which is codified at\u00a018 United States Code, Section 926.<\/p>\n<p>The third bill signed by Governor LePage was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mainelegislature.org\/LawMakerWeb\/summary.asp?ID=280040971\" target=\"_blank\">LD 1347<\/a>, introduced by &#8230; you guessed it &#8230; Representative Cebra. \u00a0This bill prevents the Bureau of Parks and Lands from prohibiting handguns carried by permit holders in any buildings or grounds under the Bureau&#8217;s jurisdiction. \u00a0This includes state parks and historic sites.<\/p>\n<p>Maine voters should take the time to thank Governor LePage for signing these important bills. \u00a0They should also thanks Representative Cebra for his work in bringing forth all of these important bills.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maine Governor Paul LePage has signed three separate bills which expand gun rights in Maine.
